Firefox.

Firefox is a new free browser from Mozilla and you can get it right now by clicking the link below left while you're reading the rest of this short article.

It is fully-featured and is comparable to Internet Explorer and all the other 'modern' browsers except that it is even better. It has not been written by a company with shareholders looking for a profit, but by a large group of people from around the world who are dedicated to making the internet a pleasurable experience for everybody - novice and nerd alike!

It sports far too many features for me to go into here, but they are there to enhance your surfing experience. If, however, you find all the 'new fangled' features of modern browsers confusing, you can simply turn them off or leave them set at default. Here are a few anyway:

Pop-ups and pop-unders: are a bane to surfing these days - Firefox will learn the ones you don't like and prevent them appearing or cluttering your screen by opening new windows surreptitiously.
Tabbed browsing: using Internet Explorer, every new site clicked on either opens in that window or a new one. That means you can have dozens of windows open or you can 'get lost'. Firefox allows you to open dozens of 'tabs' in one window minimising clutter.
Browser settings: can be automatically imported from the browser(s) you use now. 'Favorites' are organised into groups and groups can be lauched. In other words: if you regularly use a spreadsheet, a word processor and a database, the addresses can be stored as a group and launched at one click of the mouse into three separate tabs in one window. This is a great feature!
It allows you to adjust a pages font size to suit your eyesight
It displays a website's icon correctly (lovely to see)
It allows you to check your email from the toolbar, vary the way it looks,
And much, much more .......
